Mystic Sankofa Mask

This mask was made with Osese wood and brass by the native Ghanaian artist Sam T. Taking inspiration from the Twi word “Sankofa” which directly translates in English as “go back and get".
 
What we think?-  This mask gives a mystical feel, the shape and brass around mask suggests to us that this may be a spiritual man who is serving a higher power not known to the masses. The Sankofa bird on his head could suggest in this context that he has learned from the past maybe from his ancestors and is now using that knowledge to educate his peers in the present day.
